You may not know it, but Habonim has a softball team.
We play in the men’s Inter-Synagogue Baseball League on Sunday mornings from 9:30 to roughly 11:30.
The team is looking to add new players for this year who fit the following:
*Between the ages of 18 and 40 *Would consider yourself a decent player, who has played some level of competitive baseball or softball.
While the games are friendly and it is a format with your own team throwing underhand 3 pitch, the games are competitive with some decent talent in the league.
If you are interested in learning more, please contact Ted Rechtshaffen at tedr@tridelta.ca We are hoping to finalize the team by March 31st.

One of the many notable winners is Holocaust survivor Max Eisen who was recognized for “his contributions to Holocaust education, and for his promotion of transformational dialogue on human rights, tolerance and respect.”
Max Eisen has spoken at Habonim a number of times - see: https://youtu.be/INAUzHSp4oM and is involved with many local Holocaust education organizations, including the Neuberger Holocaust Centre, the Simon Wiesenthal Centre and March of the Living.
As we enter 2022, let us be proud of all the members of our community who have made extraordinary contributions to life in Canada. Wishing you all the best in 2022! Shabbat Shalom.
P.S. See photo of Max Eisen below taken by Habonim Member Eynat Katz on the 2018 March of the Living.

In this week’s Parsha, Lech Lecha, we read of “The Call of Abraham” where Abraham is chosen by God to be the father of the Jewish people. One of Abraham’s most compelling characteristics, and perhaps why God chose him for this role, was his compassion for all humanity, whether it was for strangers wandering in the desert who he and Sarah welcomed into their tent or even for the sinners of Sodom and Gomorrah whose lives Abraham pleaded for with God.
Abraham’s universal compassion is something the rabbis encouraged us to emulate, describing the Jewish people as “Rachmanim Bnai Rachmanim”, which means, "compassionate people, the descendants of a compassionate people".
In s similar vein, since the American evacuation of Afghanistan, heroic efforts have been made to help some of its most vulnerable people. See CNN and CJN links below about how Canadian Jews, an Israeli aid group and the UAE helped rescue over 100 endangered Afghans from Taliban rule.

How Jews and Arabs worked together to pull off an impossible rescue mission
An Israeli aid group, officials of the UAE and a Jewish financier -- an unusual mix of people have worked together and pulled off a rescue mission that helped 125 vulnerable Afghans flee the Taliban rule. CNN's Hadas Gold reports.
Congratulations to Habonim member Melissa Lantsman on her election as federal MP for the Conservative party in Thornhill, the most Jewish riding in Canada.
